Tesla is preparing to launch its robotaxi service in Austin, Texas, with a tentative start date of June 12, as reported by Bloomberg. The company recently filed new trademark applications for ”Tesla Robotaxi” on June 2, after the USPTO rejected its earlier ”Robotaxi” trademark due to its generic use by competitors like Waymo. Tesla aims to join a competitive market in Austin, where Waymo began offering robotaxi rides with Uber in March, and Zoox and Avride have been testing autonomous vehicles since 2023. Avride plans to expand its fleet to 100 vehicles later this year, while Uber intends to scale its autonomous fleet to hundreds in Austin before expanding to Atlanta. Tesla’s Cybercab, a dedicated robotaxi without a steering wheel or pedals, is slated for production in 2026, with an estimated cost below $30,000, according to CEO Elon Musk.
