Luther Dickinson announced the release of his latest album, ’Dead Blues Vol. 1,’ set for October 17, 2025, via Strolling Bones Records. The album features reimagined blues songs originally performed by the Grateful Dead, showcasing Dickinson’s unique blend of traditional blues with modern influences. The project includes collaborations with prominent artists such as Grahame Lesh, Steve Selvidge, and Datrian Johnson, adding diverse musical textures to the 10-track collection. Recorded over two years, the album highlights Dickinson’s role as a guitarist and producer, with sessions held in various locations including Memphis and Mississippi. The release follows Dickinson’s extensive career with the North Mississippi Allstars and his work with the Black Crowes, bringing renewed attention to his contributions to the blues genre. The album is expected to feature 12 musicians across its tracks, with a total runtime of approximately 45 minutes. Pre-orders opened on August 12, with early access to the single ”Friend of the Devil,” which has already garnered over 5,000 streams in its first week. This release aligns with a growing interest in blues reinterpretations, with plans for a limited vinyl edition of 1,000 copies. Local music stores in New Orleans and Memphis have reported increased inquiries, anticipating a boost in sales and community events tied to the launch.
